Johannes G. Peters, MD
Chief of Staff, John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek

Dr. Peters has served as Chief of Staff at John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek since January of 2014. He attended undergraduate and medical school in South Africa. After completing his internship and initial training in emergency medicine, Dr. Peters enrolled in an anesthesia training program in Oxford, England. This was followed by an internship and Anesthesia residency program at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Peters enjoys running, swimming, cycling and skiing.

John K. Merson, MD
Chief of Staff, John Muir Medical Center, Concord

Dr. Merson grew up in the Bay Area and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Stanford University, where he played on the tennis team. After graduating, he worked in the computer industry, but a reassessment of career path led to the UCLA School of Medicine, graduating in 1984, alongside his wife, Heidi. He then stayed in Los Angeles for his orthopedic residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He returned to the Bay Area to begin private practice in 1989 joining the John Muir Health staff, but after three years, opted to pursue subspecialty training in sports medicine at the Hughston Clinic in Columbus Georgia. After completing his fellowship in 1993, Dr. Merson joined the staff of what is now the Concord Campus of John Muir Health.

Russell Rodriguez, MD
Vice Chief of Staff, John Muir Medical Center, Concord

Dr. Rodriguez is a Bay Area native, born and raised in San Mateo County. His interest in medicine took hold mid-way through his undergraduate years at U.C. Berkeley, where he studied Molecular Biology. After a year spent performing research at Genentech, he left the Bay Area for Washington, D.C., where he attended George Washington University. Dr. Rodriguez returned to the Bay Area in 2002 for residency training in Emergency Medicine at Stanford University. After completion of his residency, Dr. Rodriguez took a position at Sutter Delta and then quickly transitioned to the John Muir Concord Emergency Department. Dr. Rodriguez has held the position of Department Chair for several years, and was recently appointed Medical Director of the John Muir Concord Emergency Department.
