John Merson, MD
Vice Chief of Staff, John Muir Medical Center, Concord
We welcome Dr. Merson as vice chief this year. After receiving a degree from Stanford, he worked for a computer company, then returned to the campus to complete medical school prerequisites. He then attended medical school at UCLA with his wife, and both stayed for their residencies. Returning to the Bay Area, he worked with an orthopedic practice for three years before attending a sports medicine fellowship at the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, GA. Dr. Merson says, “My impetus for joining the leadership team was the idea that private practice should be represented in the medical staff hierarchy. The changes looming in health care are potentially monumental, and I felt the best preparation was through understanding what’s coming and being part of the process. The opportunity to work with the present slate of officers finalized the decision.”
