The Breast Health Centers at Walnut Creek Medical Center and Concord Medical Center are dedicated to increasing breast health awareness and providing information on the prevention and treatment of cancer. We offer all the resources you need to make the right decisions related to your breast health.

John Muir Health is one of four institutions nationwide to be recognized as a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence by the National Consortium of Breast Cancers, its highest level of certification. In addition, we are recognized by the American College of Surgeons/Commission on Cancer as a Nationally Accredited Program of Breast Centers (NAPBC).

Entrance and Parking

The main entrance to the John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek is on La Casa Via off of Ygnacio Valley Road. Turn left into the parking garage off of La Casa Via. Our parking garage is open 24 hours with spaces for patients and visitors. The address of the garage is 133 La Casa Via. The Theresa M. Caygill Breast Health Center is in Suite 140.

Services and Business Hours

Visitors are welcome to drop in or make an appt. to visit the Breast Center for patient information and meet the Breast Health Nurse Navigator. Genetic Counseling Services is also located in the Breast Health Center location. Hours of operation are 8:00AM – 4:30PM. For further information, please call (925) 947-3322.

Services

The Breast Health Center offers support from the moment you are diagnosed with breast cancer and throughout your treatment and recovery.

Clinical Trials – Through partnerships with National Cooperative Groups John Muir Health participates in a number of clinical trials for new treatments of breast cancer. With prior arrangements, patients can be seen at the Breast Health Center.

Comprehensive Multi-Disciplinary Tumor Boards – The Tumor Board is a team of medical experts who review complex cases and make treatment recommendations. Consisting of experienced breast surgeons, plastic surgeons, gynecologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists and a genetic counselor, they focus their efforts on designing individualized treatment plans that will improve outcomes for each patient.

Every Woman Counts – We want to make sure every women in our community has access to breast health services. Our “Every Woman Counts” program at John Muir Health offers breast cancer screening, diagnostics and timely referral for the treatment for low-income, uninsured, and underinsured women. Find out if you qualify for the program by calling (925) 674-2001.

Genetic Counseling and Testing – A genetic counselor is available to conduct a detailed evaluation of a patient’s family history and, if necessary, recommend a genetic blood test to find out if you have a higher risk for developing hereditary breast cancer, which accounts for 5-10 percent of all breast cancers. If a patient is at risk, we will discuss prevention options to minimize your chances of getting breast cancer.

High Risk Cancer Program – If you are identtfied as a high risk patient for developing cancer, we work with you closely on your screening plan, risk assessment, risk reduction, monitoring, education, and resources. 

Multidisciplinary Pre-Treatment Conferences – We help you understand what treatment options are available, what to expect at every stage of your treatment, and which course of treatment would work best for you. 

Nurse Navigators – Throughout a breast cancer patient’s treatment, a Nurse Navigator is available to provide education, support and additional resources to help you overcome the challenges.

Additional services and programs we offer include:

Post-Treatment Survivorship Program – John Muir Health patients have access to a Survivorship Nurse Navigator who helps patients adjust to their post-treatment recovery.
