It’s a not-very-well-kept-secret that John Muir Health is expecting the arrival of a brand new, state-of-the-art mobile health clinic this spring.

We are delighted to announce that the new rig will arrive in the East Bay on May 23.

Before you get too excited, keep in mind that it will take some time to get our staff trained and the vehicle street-ready. In the meantime, we’ll be sharing stories about the history and the people behind the vehicle as we get ready to debut the new digs.

Where it all started:

Sharon Jenkins is a Concord native. She’s also the director of employer broker and worksite wellness for John Muir Health. Her connection to the mobile health clinic is personal and emotional.

“My dad was the original driver for the mobile health clinic. He drove it home from the manufacturing plant somewhere in the Midwest. He created all these binders for how to drive it and how to maintain it. He arranged to park it at the Concord Police Department because there wasn’t a place big enough at the hospital. He’d back that thing into this tiny corner they gave him. He never scratched it. He loved being the driver of that clinic. He grew up in Brentwood so in his mind, he was taking care of his people. If you looked hungry, he was going to feed you. He’d even invite strangers home for dinner. We never knew who would show up at the door. He would give the shirt off his back. But mostly, he just really wanted people to listen to the doctors. He’d say over and over, they are here to help – follow their instructions. His coworkers came to his memorial service when he passed away in 2017. They were like a family with a common goal to make people healthier.”
