Specialty Areas:

The John Muir Behavioral Health Center partners with four Bay area nursing schools to provide clinical training for their BSN, MSN programs as well as colleges and universities for social service, creative therapies, and counselor clinical pre-creatorship training. You'll have the opportunity to teach new nurses, social workers, counseling staff, and creative therapists while updating your skills and knowledge. Nurses who are selected have strong critical thinking skills, and the Nurse Managers work with staff to develop required competencies in the specialty of psychiatric nursing. New hires complete on-line courses, classroom lectures, and clinical preceptorships in their assigned unit, and can be cross-trained in other units to have flexibility and expand their skill base.

Emergency/Trauma

Experienced RNs who decide to make a career change into the Emergency Room are provided with a customized orientation and training program. New staff to the Department are paired for 4-6 weeks with an experienced RN preceptor for in-depth, one-on-one training in the ED environment. In addition, for those RNs who have no Telemetry experience, the 8-Week Cardiac Care Course provides a comprehensive introduction to cardiovascular care.

Surgery

The Concord campus has a 6-month Surgery Program, where new grads are trained and paid as a Level I RN. Our Master's Prepared Educator, Charge Nurses and Surgical Administration supervise this program. The program consists of a didactic course dealing with all aspects of surgery, and rotation through all services to learn the practical side of scrubbing and circulating, working with an experienced mentor. Nurses who have a special interest in a particular service line can continue to improve their skills and gravitate to that service. We believe in continual education, supporting outside conference attendance, training and continual exposure to in-house services.

Ongoing Education

Eligible courses of study for employees in good standing are an AA degree in Nursing, and on-site RN-to-BSN/MSN Programs with an award up to $5,000 a year for a maximum benefit of $15,000. We also offer up to $15,000 a year with a maximum benefit of $30,000 for a BSN study course.
