Pediatric Hospital & Emergency Medicine

We have a full-service Inpatient Pediatric service supervised by highly talented and skilled Stanford Pediatric Health Care Faculty at our Walnut Creek Medical Center. Our pediatric hospitalists provide Pediatric Advanced Life Support training and supervise all inpatient and emergency department consultations for Walnut Creek. Our residents are provided hands-on experience with common pediatric hospitalizations like pneumonia, respiratory syncytial virus, sepsis, complicated urinary tract infections, dehydration, appendicitis, asthma, etc. Our residents become familiar with initial assessment and management of acutely ill children from infants to teens in this setting and also participate in some emergency department consultations with the pediatric hospitalist during the rotation.

Goals and Objectives:

  • Rapid identification of severe versus mildly ill infant -> child and initial management.
  • Thorough history and physical examination, and initial management of the hospitalized child.
  • Consultation and discharge planning with inter-professional teams and specialists to assure optimal care and transition to home.
